Who is eligible for assistance?
Residents of Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris and Montgomery counties whose vehicles fail the state emissions test or whose cars or trucks are at least 10 calendar years old or older can qualify for assistance if:

• The vehicle has been registered in one of the five participating counties for at least one year and is gasoline-powered;
• The vehicle has passed or can pass the state's safety inspection; and
• The family's income meets program guidelines.

Income guidelines are on a sliding scale, depending on the family's size. For a family of four, an annual income of $61,950 or less qualifies you.

How does the program work?
After we determine that you are eligible, we will send you a voucher that you can use to replace or repair your vehicle.

• We'll contribute up to $3,000 for a car that is a model year 2005, 2006, 2007 or 2008; on our acceptable vehicles list; and doesn’t cost more than $25,000.
• We'll contribute $3,000 for a truck that is a model year 2006, 2007 or 2008; on our acceptable vehicles list; and costs no more than $25,000.
• We'll contribute $3,500 for a hybrid that is a model year 2007 or 2008; on our list; and costs no more than $25,000.
  • Take your voucher to a participating dealership, and use it there.  You are responsible for the balance of the cost above our contribution.
  • You must leave your current vehicle—including the title—with the dealer.  It will be dismantled.
  • Please note that for us to replace the vehicle you drive, you must own it.  That means the title is in your name.

Which cars or trucks I can buy?
We will send you a list when we mail your voucher to you, and you can check now by clicking on 2008, 2007, 2006 or 2005 for the respective lists.  Remember, we can only contribute toward the purchase of a car, truck or hybrid on these lists that costs less than $25,000.

How do I apply?
You must fill out a paper application to request assistance.  If your vehicle has failed the emissions test, the testing facility should be able to provide you with an application.  You can also download an application here or call us at 832.681.2527 or 866.237.9392 toll-free or email us at airchecktexas@h-gac.com, and we'll send an application to you.

1. Complete the application and mail it to AirCheck Texas Repair & Replacement, Houston-Galveston Area Council, PO Box 22777, Houston, Texas 77027 or fax it to us at 832.681.2530. Be sure to include the required supporting financial documents.
2. We will process your application as quickly as we can.  We may have to request additional information or supporting documents from you.
