New Honda Prelude Coming Soon to Houston, TX

The Honda Prelude is back. On hiatus since 2001, the Honda Prelude is set to return in 2026. At John Eagle Honda of Houston, we are excited to keep everyone updated on what to expect with the 2026 Honda Prelude and when to expect it to arrive.

What to Expect

The 2026 Honda Prelude will return as a two-door coupe, as it was in its previous iterations. All indications tell us that the 2026 Honda Prelude will feature a hybrid powertrain. This powertrain will likely be the same 2.0-liter I4 featured in the 2025 Honda Civic Sport Hybrid. There will only be an automatic transmission in the 2026 Honda Prelude for the diehard manual transmission fans. Fret not; the transmission will still be tuned for an exciting drive.

Powertrain

The hybrid powertrain for the 2026 Honda Prelude is expected to be shared with the Honda CR-V, the Honda Accord, and the Honda Civic. On the 2025 Honda Accord, the hybrid powertrain produces 204 horsepower combined. That powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter I4 combined with two electric motors. Expect the 2025 Honda Prelude to top this with a unique tune.

Front-Wheel Drive

The 2026 Honda Prelude is expected to come as a front-wheel drive vehicle, much like the siblings with which it shares its underpinnings. This is also the architecture that the original Honda Prelude featured. However, an all-wheel drive system will likely also be included to enhance performance in the turns.

Stunning Design

With the Honda Prelude's rebirth, many design elements pay homage to previous generations. The window trim sweeps every so slightly upward in the rear like the first and fifth generation. The taillights on the 2026 Honda Prelude stretch the full width of the rear, much like those from the second and third-generation Honda Prelude. The front end mimics some of the elements found on the fourth-generation Honda Prelude. While the exterior nods to past designs, the 2026 Honda Prelude is unique on its own, with a look that appears to be speeding by, even as it stands still.

The Date Night Car

The nickname "Date Night Car" quickly caught on when the Honda Prelude was introduced. The Honda Prelude has always fought well above its class with its sporty design and fun handling. The two-door design made the Honda Prelude the perfect date night car, appearing to be much more expensive than its affordable price tag. The stunning design turned heads as it pulled to valet lines or cruised downtown streets.

A Wider Focus

While the 2026 Honda Prelude will likely continue its date night car concept for some, the all-new Honda Prelude will hopefully fulfill many other roles for drivers. Parents and grandparents can take their children and grandchildren on drives to share the history of their younger lives. Younger drivers can discover the Honda Prelude for the first time, experiencing a sporty drive in a stunning car.

Fitting into Honda's Lineup

As we say farewell to the Honda Civic Coupe and the Honda Accord coupe, the 2026 Honda Prelude will fill that position in the Honda lineup. While the previously mentioned models will be missed, we are more than excited to see the 2026 Honda Prelude take its place on our lot and in your garage.
